Father – Sri Vadheendra Tirtharu in his poorvashrama

Ashrama Jyestaru –  Sri Varadendra Tirtharu,
Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu

Vidya Shishyaru      – Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu

Sri Dheerendra Tirtharu was a great pandit.  He is the poorvashrama son of Sri Vadeendra Tirtharu.  Initially Sri Jayaramacharya was not interested in sanyasa.  He was touring all over the country with the main intention of dharma prachara, paata, pravachana, etc.  Sri Vadheendra Tirtharu used to tell Sri Jayaramacharya was repeatedly telling him to have vairagya through sanyasa.    Sri Vasudhendra Tirtharu who took ashrama from Sri Vadheendra Tirtha knew the mind of his guru that Sri Jayaramacharya shall become a sanyasi, he wanted to give ashrama to him.  But during his vrundavana pravesha time, Sri Jayaramacharya was on tour and he could not be informed as such, he was not given the ashrama.

Sri Vasudendra Tirtharu gave ashrama to Sri Varadendra Tirtharu in 1761.  During Sri Varadendra Tirtharu’s tour in Pune, Sri Jayaramacharya was also there alongwith the guru and he had officially informed the public that Sri Jayaramacharya will be his uttaradhikari.

Unfortunately, even during Sri Varadendra Tirtha’s vrundavana pravesha time also, Sri Jayaramacharya was not available near him, he was on tour.  So, he initiated sanyasa to his poorvashrama brother Sri Lakshmi narayanacharya and named him as Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtha, and told him to do the adhyayana under Sri Jayaramacharya.  Sri Varadendra Tirtharu had told Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu that his gurugalu Sri Vadheendra Tirtharu wanted Sri Dheerendra Tirtharu to become a sanyasi.

How he took ashrama – When he returned back, Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu was already given the sanyasa.  Sri Jayaramacharya, who was instructed by Sri Vadheendra Tirtharu to take sanyasa, didn’t liked to disturb the parampare of Rayara Mutt, so he directly went to Kumbakona and took sanyasa in front of Sri Vijayeendra Tirtharu.

By this time, Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu, sent his shishyas all around in search of Jayaramacharya, and he came to know that Jayaramacharya had become Sri Dheerendra Thirtha in front of Sri Vijayendra Tirtharu at Kumbakonam.  Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu went to Dheerendra Tirtharu and requested him to take charge of the Mantralaya Matha peethadhipathva, which he did only for a few days, doing the Ramachandra Devara pooja and entrusted the peetadhipathva to Bhuvanendra Tirtharu only.

Sri Dheerendra Tirtharu taught Sri Bhuvanendra Tirtharu and after some time he went to Ritti, which was at that time a Lingayat province, and settled there.  Sri Jagannatha Dasaru also visited him frequently to Ritti and Sri Satyabodha Tirtharu also used to join him regularly and were very close.

It is said that Sri Jagannatha Dasaru composed Harikathamruthasara at Ritti in the sannidhana of Sri Dheerendra Tirtharu only.

Sri Dheerendra Tirtharu had the blessings of Rayaru and he had blessed many during his period and even after his vrundavana pravesha at Ritti on the banks of the river Varada.    There we can find a very spacious Mantralaya Branch premises.

  1. I had the great pleasure of visiting Hosaritti and darshana of the great saint Sri Dheerendra theertharu recently. I visited Kudli Akshobhya theertha brindavanam at Kudli,Sri Sathya Dharma theertha brindavanam at Holehonnur,Sri Sathya Sandha theertha brindavanam at Mahishi and Sri Sathyabhodha theertha brindavanam at Savanur.
I was a great admirer of all the above yathis and a strange thing happened at Hosaritti. While doing urulu seva in front of the brindavanams of Sri Raghavendra,Sri Dheerendra and Sri Susheelendra,I wanted to recite Sri Narayanopanishat.Since sri Dheerendra theertharu has written commentary on this particular vedamantra I decided to recite but somehow I could not remember the beginning.I prayed to Sri Dheerendra and amazing as it sounds I started reciting “Om atha purushohavai Narayano kamayayathaha”.Tears came to my eyes on the blessings I got from this great saint.
